STEVE MCCURRY - ANIMALS

27-11-2021 / 01-05-2022
Steve McCurry. Animals

The master of the use of colour, empathy and humanity, turns his gaze to our most faithful travel companions: this is how “Steve McCurry. Animals” was born, the exhibition that is coming for the first time to Piemonte at the Stupinigi Hunting Lodge from November 27th, 2021 to May 1st, 2022.

The American Steve McCurry - the photographer of emotions, who captures the essence in a shot, making his images unforgettable works of art - has been one of the most authoritative voices of contemporary photography for about 30 years. His works show conflicts, cultures, ancient traditions, always keeping the human element at the centre. He has been honored with some of the most prestigious awards in photography, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal, the National Press Photographers Award and he has won the World Press Photo competition four times.

The “Animals” project originated in 1992, when McCurry was in the territories involved in the Gulf War to get documented evidence of the disastrous impact on the environment and on the fauna in those places of conflict: he came back with some of his most famous iconic images, such as the camels crossing the wells of oil on fire and migratory birds covered with oil. Starting from that photo shoot, McCurry turned his empathetic gaze onto the world of animals.

The animals on display are the protagonists of sixty shots that tell the thousand stories of a daily life where man and animal are inextricably linked: a choral fresco of interaction and sharing, which touches on the themes of work and the sustenance that animal provides man, of the consequences of man’s action on local and global fauna, of the affection that the human being showers on his pet, whatever it is.

Along the route, numerous profound considerations are aimed at raising public awareness on the issues of safeguarding our planet and its eco-sustainability
