Ivrea, the “capital” of Canavese, is a city rich in history and, since 2018, a Unesco site as “Industrial City of the 20th century”.
And it is precisely to make this heritage known that every first Saturday of the month “Ivrea the beauty” - as defined by the poet Giosuè Carducci - offers two guided tours: “Welcome Tour® Ivrea” and “Welcome Tour® Ivrea Unesco Industrial City”.
The first one, at 10.30am departing from the Tourist Office in Piazza Ottinetti, retraces the history of the city and its monuments: the medieval Castle, the Cathedral with its Romanesque bell towers and recently restored crypt, the Bishop’s Palace, the alleys of the upper part with their evocative views and the squares of the Battle of Oranges during the Historic Carnival.
The second, at 2.30pm with meeting point at the Unesco Visitor’s Centre in Via Jervis 11, leads to the discovery of the architectures linked to Adriano Olivetti’s industrial and socio-cultural project: the buildings destined for production, residence and social services, designed by the most famous architects and town planners of the 20th century, are evidence of his innovative thinking and precursor of the times.
The cost? 14.00/17.00 € full price, 11.00/14.00 € reduced (over 65, students under 25, Torino+Piemonte Card or Abbonamento Musei owners), free for under 10s. And for those who wish to take advantage of it, there is also the combined ticket: 26.00 € full price, 23.00 € reduced. Booking required: tickets can be purchased at www.turismotorino.org/en/experiences/events/welcome-tourr-ivrea or at the Ivrea Tourist Office in Piazza Ottinetti.
Ivrea as you have never seen it!
