850 years have passed since the “conversion” of Valdo of Lyons, a wealthy merchant who, upon reading the Bible, made a decision that changed his existence and those who followed him: it was the beginning of the Waldensian movement that, with the accession to the Reformation in 1532, would become what we still know today as the Waldensian Church.
On the evening of 16 February, the Waldensian Valleys lit fires in remembrance of the “Letters Patent” signed by King Carlo Alberto in 1848, which granted the Waldensians freedom and equal civil and political rights.
In the afternoon, at 4.30pm, in Bobbio Pellice there will be a guided hike through the places protagonists of the Waldensians’s historical and religious events, and then approach the bonfire in the locality Sibaud.
