The first edition of the Cicala Festival involves several municipalities in the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre: Bollengo, Burolo, Chiaverano, Ivrea, Loranzè, Rueglio and Quincinetto. The idea for the festival stems from the desire to offer a series of live concerts, conceived and commissioned with the specific intent of retracing a journey through the history of music, exploring compositional styles and various repertoires through different historical periods (from the Middle Ages to the 20th century), also enhancing the architectural, historical and cultural heritage of the Morainic Amphitheatre of Ivrea (a geological monument, unique in the world for the intact closed circle moraine that surrounds it). For this reason the concerts are held in different locations - Romanesque churches, Renaissance houses, 18th century guest quarters, modern industrial sites and natural parks - in which, as far as possible, the repertoires historically connected to them will be performed. Never before has a single festival in the Canavese area combined early music (performed according to ‘historically informed’ criteria), romantic music and modern music. Each concert is introduced by brief historical-musicological presentations and listening guides.
