he film is set in the 20th century and tells the story of Lili d'Aengy, a cocotte who decides to flee Paris to protect her reputation. She realises that her daughter Tina has a learning disorder and, before it is discovered, she flees to Rome to hide her. Once in the capital, Lili's life is turned upside down when she meets Maria Montessori, who has devised a revolutionary method for children with learning difficulties. Lili, however, is unaware that Maria herself is hiding a secret, namely a child born out of wedlock. The two women, although very different, will help each other to find and conquer their place in the world.
