The Savoy Cabbage Festival is back, the prized Canavese vegetable is the basis of many recipes that can be enjoyed during the event: Supa ‘d pan e còj, Bagna caôda, Capônèt. The Sagra is a showcase highlighting the excellence of the territory: past and present, gastronomy, culture and local folklore alternate, offering thousands of visitors emotions, atmospheres of yesteryear and authentic flavours of the rural tradition. The official programme of the Sagra will open on Wednesday 20 November at 8 p.m. in the Angelo Burbatti municipal amphitheatre with the dinner ‘A tavola con le eccellenze del territorio’. Thursday 21 November at 8pm in the municipal amphitheatre is the Piedmontese fritto misto dinner, while Friday 22 November will be the bagna caôda evening, and reservations are compulsory by calling 347-4150203 or 349-3373374. OnSaturday 23 November at 10.30 a.m., a conference is scheduled on the theme ‘The 5-Lakes Park: an opportunity or a problem?’. Also on the day before, around the old wine press at 3 p.m., theexhibition-competition of the best local productions of Savoy cabbage will begin. The prize-giving ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m., after evaluation by the jury. At 4 p.m., space will also be given to music in the little church of San Rocco, for aclassical guitar concert by the Accademia Artistica di Torino Guitare Actuelle. Admission is free while places last. On Sunday 24 November, the Great Sunday Fair, starting at 7.45 a.m., will animate the old town centre, Corso Marconi and the area in front of the municipal amphitheatre with agri-food products, the taste streets will offer Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta food and wine specialities, and the vintage market will attract vintage enthusiasts, while music and folklore will enliven the town. The 5th Palio dei Comuni (Palio of Municipalities) will propose at 10.30 am and 1.30 pm spectacular equestrian competitions between the representatives of 18 Canavese villages, engaged in a race of attacks with two timed heats on sports carriages pulled by pairs of horses. The novelty of the Sagra 2024, however, is the 1st Trofeo del Cavolo (Cabbage Trophy), a speed carving competition with 10 chainsaw artists who will compete in an exciting contest of speed and skill. During the weekend of the Festival in Montalto Dora, it will be possible to dine on Saturday 23 or have lunch on Sunday 24 in the Central Restaurant of the Festival organised by the asd Pallavolo Montalto in the municipal amphitheatre. Behind the parish church, the Association of Savoy Cabbage Producers in the Farmers' Restaurant will offer cabbage specialities, also take-away. The Ristoro dell'Oratorio will be open for both Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch, with traditional Piedmontese specialities and other tasty novelties. Finally, the local Proloco associations will be present at the Fair with their typical products.
